My mom's name is Lynn Phegley. She teaches music to elementary school kids in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She likes classic Hollywood musicals, trashy romance novels and "Sex In The City."
And for some reason she's seen damn near every episode of "Lost."
Each week of the series last season, I'm opening up the blog to mom to share her thoughts on what happened. I guarantee that those of you who like to read blogs digging in to the metaphorical underpinnings of the show looking for clues and analysis will almost certainly get nothing out of this. And thanks to this site for the screencaps.
Let's begin.
A NOTE ON LAST WEEK'S EPISODE
"I turned on the repeat of last week for a minute, and they had those pop up things. Did you know that foot has a name? It's called a minaret or something. I don't know. In the minaret, parapet, whatawhet....whatever. But who knew that thing had a name?"
THIS WEEK'S EPISODE
"It was dullsville this week. DULLS. VILLE. It goes from stupidity to dullsville. What was the point of this week?
"This moved WAY too slow. It just seemed to move at a snail's pace. I could have fallen asleep two or three or four times. The only thing interesting was at the very end when Claire came back as a zombie or whatever she is...it was like 'The Walking Dead.'" [NOTE: She's not referencing the comics, nerds. She just means zombies.]
"That's what's wrong with this story. They're up and down and up and down. They can't maintain a level of interest."
WHY JACK DOESN'T ASK ANY OBVIOUS QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON
"It's because Jack knows the answers because he is already simpatico with every person he meets. Like, he knows that guy is not telling the truth, and he knows that the pill is something he should not give Sayid. He sees through their facade or whatever...I don't know. I mean, he just said to those guys at the swimming pool, 'Stand aside' or whatever, and they let him go through to the leader.
"He's not a very good leader because he can't figure shit out!"
WHAT SHE KNOWS ABOUT KATE, SAWYER AND SAYID
"Kate and Sawyer are sitting there, and he's not talking to her I guess. But isn't it convenient that the water hose still works? Now she can fill up her canteen. But here's what I thought: I thought Sawyer was going to go down in that little hole and turn that wheel again. Who knows that's down there? Somebody knows where that bookshelf is. Somebody knows how to return the universe.
"Kate only does what Kate needs for herself. She's a self-centered character. See with Sawyer, now he's in love. And why does she cry when he says "I was going to ask her to marry me?" Like he was in a romance novel. And then she cried. Who does she love...does she love Jack, or does she love Sawyer? Or both of them?
"Sayid always was evil. He was evil, and then he became good. He's a character that will do what needs to be done, no matter what it is. He has no inner voice."
ON WHAT WE LEARNED THIS WEEK
"Tonight was just too...what happened tonight? Nothing happened. The blonde is back. That's it. At the end of the story Claire is back. But that wasn't too surprising because everyone's popping back to life. They're all going to pop back to life and have a hoe down or something. A birthday party. A reunion. That's what my prediction is: at the end, they're going to all get together 20 years later and have a class reunion in those little yellow houses."
